Derbyshire Record Office welcomes enquiries from teachers and educational staff. It is sometimes possible to arrange group visits, and we also sell a series of "Archives First" beginners' guides, which provide excellent summaries of the themes and subjects covered by our holdings.

East Midlands Oral History Archive (EMOHA)

The East Midlands Oral History Archive provides free training and advice for schools, individuals or groups wishing to develop oral history projects, as well as talks on a range of subjects. The Archive also has a loan collection of edited recordings which schools and adult learning groups can borrow free of charge.

Northamptonshire Record Office

Northamptonshire Record Office is happy to receive requests about records from teachers and to give advice on the availability of records. Many topics will require a personal visit by the teacher to check our indexes, view items and order copies. There are detailed lists of documents for both the first and second world wars, although not all of these can be copied.

Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland

This Record Office holds a wide variety of archival material relating to the Second World War and also houses the Local Studies Library for Leicestershire and Rutland which contains a large variety of printed sources including newspapers.

Learn with Museums

Learn with Museums is a DCMS and DfES funded initiative that aims to support East Midlands teachers in their use of museums for teaching and learning. Visit Learn with Museums to locate teaching and learning packages, free downloadable resources and for information to support planning a museum visit. Interactives for a Pupil Zone are under production, as are generic 'How to Guides' about working with museums.

The National Archives Learning Curve

The Learning Curve is an on-line teaching resource, structured to tie in with the History National Curriculum from Key Stages 2 to 5. The Learning Curve contains a varied range of original sources including documents, photographs, film and sound recordings.

The A2A database contains catalogues describing archives held throughout England and dating from the 900s to the present day. A2A does not yet offer a full description of all the archives in England, but it is regularly updated.

Headline History

This award winning website enables pupils to become reporters on a series of virtual newspapers, interviewing real-life witnesses to historic events. Timelines put events into context and an events and venues section allows users to see what’s going on in their region. Headline History covers four eras: Romans, Tudors, Victorians and World War Two.

Their Past Your Future
