CUK Hosts Webinar on “World Environment Day”


Ganderbal, 5th June: To commemorate ‘World Environment Day’, the Department of Kashmir, in conjunction with the Directorate of Student Welfare (DSW), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) on Saturday organized a webinar “The Quran and the environment”.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, Former, Vice-Chancellor, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) and Director of Islamic Foundation for Science and Environment, Prof. Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Deans of Schools, Heads and Coordinators, faculty members, students and other staff attended the program, the university said in a statement.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir said the damaged ecosystem could be restored by planting saplings, greening cities and cleaning up rivers and streams. “The Covid-19 pandemic has reminded humanity of the damage done to nature and the importance of protecting the environment.” He said that the Kashmir valley experienced the worst flood in the year 2014 and the same was attributed by the experts to the continuous environmental degradation. “Trash dumped in rivers over the years has been returned to us and the same has been found in our residences,” he said. He asked the students to work proactively to stop environmental degradation and help restore the pristine glory of the lakes and forests of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
