The School of Geography and Environmental Sciences is now seeking to appoint up to two lecturers in Environmental Change and Sustainability and/or Landscape Dynamics and Ecology.
These appointments will strengthen the School’s existing research, teaching and impact activities within the interdisciplinary context of sustainability science, and support two exciting areas of strategic development: innovative approaches to studying current environmental change and past; and geospatial modeling of environmental change for understanding and prediction. Both areas relate to the rapidly changing needs for nature-based solutions to anthropogenic environmental problems, the exploration and implementation of sustainable solutions, and the exchange of knowledge to address climate change and related impacts and adaptation.
We welcome applications from researchers with a PhD (or equivalent professional qualification and/or experience) whose research actively engages with one or more of these societal needs, in disciplinary specialties such as ( but not limited to) biogeochemistry, freshwater ecosystems, ecogeomorphology, spatial ecology, global environmental change and earth observation. Particularly relevant methodological approaches include (but are not limited to) molecular analyzes (e.g. eDNA and/or sedimentary ancient DNA), biomarkers and biogeochemical fingerprints, geospatial analysis of large datasets , physical experimentation in the laboratory and/or modeling of data-based systems. . We particularly welcome applicants with emerging research leadership experience and a demonstrated ability to work across disciplines.
Teaching activities for these positions will be at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate (MSc) level, carried out through lectures, tutorials, practical work, seminars and/or fieldwork. Teaching responsibilities will involve co-teaching on core program modules and/or field courses, with the possibility of developing new modules in specialist subject areas. There is great potential in these positions to develop and contribute to innovative ways of teaching and learning. We welcome applications from scholars with an active interest and/or previous experience in decolonization and program diversification. Undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching experience is preferred, but training towards a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) will be provided where appropriate. This position is offered on a permanent full-time basis. The position is tenable from September 1, 2022.

The modality of teaching delivery will naturally depend on the state of the Covid-19 pandemic and local conditions, but it is expected that the majority of teaching during the 2022/23 academic session will be in person. .
