A host of activities, exhibitions and educational workshops will take place next week
To mark National Environment Day, the Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) organized an initiative under the slogan “Climate Action Now” in downtown Al Zahia.
The campaign began with a beach cleanup in Khorfakkan on Friday, followed by awareness raising events and activities, environmental programs, exhibitions, educational workshops and lectures throughout the following week.
Support global efforts
Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, President of EPAA, said: “The event, which has great significance and recalls the importance of the environment, has been commemorated for more than 20 years and we would like to participate in it as part of of our strategy, which aims to protect and preserve the environment, biodiversity and sustainability,” she said.
Al Suwaidi urged community members to actively participate in environmental protection and support Sharjah in its global efforts to preserve the environment and raise awareness of the need to care for it and improve its resources.
Improve air quality
The campaign aims to introduce the concept of air quality, which is measured by the degree of cleanliness or pollution of the air.

Additionally, it will also raise awareness of the importance of mangroves to the UAE and how these trees reduce the percentage of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere. As part of the campaign, a number of mangroves will be planted at Al Qurm in Kalba.
The EPAA seeks to protect the environment, nature reserves, wildlife and their biodiversity through scientific studies and research. The authority publishes educational awareness materials, implements environmental awareness policies and programs, and launches specialized campaigns in the field of environmental awareness and education.
